AOA Issues Response to AOS lawsuit against ABO

Last week the American Optometric Society (AOS) sued the American Board of Optometry (ABO).This lawsuit does not in any manner attempt to prohibit or slow down the development of board certification. Instead, it is questioning what can be said about board certification to the public. The lawsuit has no merit. AOS has not named AOA as a party to the lawsuit, but AOS has made reference to AOA in its pleadings, making some misstatements of facts concerning the AOA. The AOA does not intend to intervene in the lawsuit at this time, but will monitor it and be involved only to the extent necessary to protect our own interests. Since AOA is not a party to this lawsuit, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.
