AOA honors profession’s luminaries
Linda Johnson, O.D., recipient of the AOA Optometrist of the Year AwardAs part of his first duty as president of the Optometric Physicians of Washington, Michael Noble, O.D., welcomed attendees of the 2008 Optometry’s Meeting™ to the Pacific Northwest and the city of Seattle.

The Opening General Session, sponsored by Essilor, kicked off the meeting Thursday morning with the recognition of the AOA annual award recipients.

Christopher Gardner, keynote speaker at the Opening General SessionHomelessness beget ‘happyness’ for Christopher Gardner
Christopher Gardner has had a life of extremes, working for some of the top brokerage firms in the country while sleeping under his desk because he was homeless. He also was the subject of the Will Smith film, “The Pursuit of Happyness.”

In the Opening General Session of Optometry’s Meeting™, Gardner pulled back the curtains on both periods of his life. His appearance was sponsored by Essilor of America and he was introduced by Rod Tahran, O.D., the company’s vice president of professional relations/clinical affairs.

Brian Snydsman, winner of the 2008 Varillux Optometry Super BowlUniversity of California, Berkeley School of Optometryearned a year's worth of bragging rights-and a crystal trophy-thanks to the knowledge and gutsy wagering of Brian Snydsman, fourth-year student. Snydsman took home $1,000 for winning the Varilux Optometry Super Bowl XVII sponsored by Essilor.
