Are you ready for the Upcoming 2016 Meaningful Use Deadlines?

To avoid Meaningful Use (MU) penalties to your 2018 Medicare payments, you must:

  • Meet all the 2016 MU Objectives and Measures for at least a 90-day period between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016.
  • Attest that you met those requirements by February 28, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Members should note two major changes for the 2016 program year:

  • The Secure Electronic Messaging Objective now requires that members use their Electronic Health Records (EHR) to send a secure message to at least one patient during the reporting period.
  • The reporting period is any continuous 90 days within the 2016 calendar year. This means that members only need to meet the MU objectives and measures for any 90-day period in 2016.

For more information regarding the 2016 MU program, please see AOA's updated Meaningful Use webpage and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS') 2016 Program Requirements.

Please check AOA's Alerts webpage for future updates on Meaningful Use and other regulatory changes.
