2 scholarship grants support aspiring optometrists

Optometry students will help shape the future of the profession—but sometimes they need support to shape their education. That's why Optometry Cares®—The AOA Foundation offers grants for high-achieving, aspiring ODs.

Optometry Cares® encourages third-year students to apply for two scholarships administered through the foundation: the Dr. Seymour Galina Grant and the InfantSEE® Scholarship Grant. If you know deserving students, encourage them to apply.

2014 Seymour Galina Grant

The winner of this award will receive $2,500. This grant comes from one of the earliest gifts to Optometry Cares®, made in honor of the late Seymour Galina, O.D., a longtime AOA member. To qualify, a student must:

  • Be a third-year student member (class of 2015) in good standing in the American Optometric Student Association (AOSA) and the AOA;
  • Be in good academic standing at his or her school or college of optometry;
  • Submit a paper and other application materials.

InfantSEE® Scholarship Grant

This grant, sponsored by Vision West, Inc., offers $5,000 to the winner and $2,500 to the runner-up. The awards promote InfantSEE®, the AOA's nationwide public health effort dedicated to children's eye health. To qualify, a student must:

  • Be a third-year student member (class of 2015) in good standing in the AOSA and the AOA;
  • Be in good academic standing in his or her school or college of optometry;
  • Submit a paper and other application materials.
