AOA’s Save Your Vision Month in full swing

AOA’s Save Your Vision Month in full swing

Excerpted from the March 2015 edition of AOA Focus

Just halfway through the AOA's own public awareness observance, Save Your Vision Month—conducted annually in March—news releases, infographics and social media posts have already been seen in more than 900 media outlets. There's plenty of time to take advantage of this campaign and alert your community and patients about the dangers of digital eye strain using the message of this year's campaign—The 21st Century Eye: Three Ways to Protect Your Vision.  Here are three ways you can capitalize on the consumer media conversation:

  1. Make it your own.
Take possession of the one health observance month that the AOA can truly call its own, and develop a plan that maximizes exposure of the national campaign. Factor Save Your Vision Month into the practice's marketing strategy and create local hype that positions ODs as the eye health experts.

  2. Kick it up a notch.
Save Your Vision Month kits and promotional resources make it easy for members to fully participate in the public campaign, but doctors don't have to stop there. Adapt the template resources such as press releases, social media posts and an infographic to take community awareness to the next level.

  3. Keep it going.
Don't stop the momentum just because the calendar reads April 1. Build on campaign successes throughout the year to keep eye health and routine, comprehensive eye exams top of mind for the local community.

Save Your Vision Month also promotes the visibility of Optometry Cares®—The AOA Foundation. Support the philanthropic foundation by making a donation or purchasing a Save Your Vision Month kit. Funds raised go toward sustaining foundation programs such as InfantSEE®, VISION USA and Healthy Eyes Healthy People® grants.
