The 117th Annual AOA Congress & 44th Annual AOSA Conference: Optometry's Meeting® is being held this year in Philadelphia, June 25 to 29.

Early-bird registration rates now end May 7th. AOA member optometrists and optometric staff can save up to 20 percent by registering by then. Adult guests of AOA members receive similar savings of more than 25 percent. Members' children, 17 years of age and younger, attend for free.

At the same time, rooms at the hotels within walking distance of The Pennsylvania Convention Center, the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown (HQ), Home2 Suites by Hilton, Loews Philadelphia Hotel and the Philadelphia Downtown Courtyard by Marriott, are being booked quickly.

The one-price registration includes:

  • All networking events and meals
  • Four days of continuing education, with more than 220 classes
  • Three days' entry to the Exhibit Hall, with more than 200 vendors
  • Admittance to popular events, such as Optometry's Meeting Opening General Session, sponsored by Essilor; Varilux® Optometry Student BowlTM XXIII, sponsored by Essilor; and A Celebration of Optometry, sponsored by HOYA.

This year, the Opening General Session keynote, on Wednesday, June 25, will be presented by Olympic champion Scott Hamilton, and actor and comedian Martin Short will entertain at the Celebration of Optometry. These marquee events bracket a conference known for its extensive opportunities for continuing education and networking, as well as an extensive Exhibit Hall, which opens at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

New for education, courses will begin Wednesday afternoon and continue through Saturday, adding a half day of additional options for attendees. Also, rather than having a separate student education track, for the first time, students may take any course on the OD education program for no additional fees.

Friday, June 27, brings one new event and a host of familiar favorites. At 9:00 a.m., participate in 'Colleague to Colleague: A Conversation with the AOA Board,' and at 5:00 p.m. attend one of more than a dozen alumni and friends receptions.

Outside the Pennsylvania Convention Center, visitors to Philadelphia can learn about the creation of our country by visiting "America's Most Historic Square Mile," Independence National Historical Park, the site of both the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.

In the heart of the Northeast Corridor and within a day's drive of Washington, D.C., and New York City, Philadelphia is also known for cheesesteaks and pretzels. The city boasts gardens, a zoo and the renowned Museum of Art where the fictional fighter, Rocky Balboa, ran the steps, and the Phillies will be taking on the Marlins and the Braves.

Contact Lens and Cornea Section Council member Edward Bennett, O. D., says, "In my opinion, Optometry's Meeting represents an outstanding opportunity to obtain great education, but maybe even more important, the opportunity to be engaged in the profession and network with current optometrists, with future optometrists, with everybody in the profession."
