Looking ahead: Count in Optometry’s Meeting®

Forget about yellow brick roads—all it takes is a little advanced planning to reach the Emerald City for optometry's premier occasion.

Now is the time to make travel plans for Optometry's Meeting®, June 24-28, 2015.

Now is the time to start including Optometry's Meeting® 2015, June 24-28, in travel plans for next year as the annual conference visits the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Washington.

With more than 200 hours of continuing education (CE), more than 200 exhibitors and countless networking opportunities offered in 2014, Optometry's Meeting delivers on the promise of unparalleled professional opportunities. And 2015 will be better than ever.

Here are four highlights to expect from Optometry's Meeting 2015:

  1. Expanded CE opportunities. Take advantage of more CE at the beginning and end of Optometry's Meeting 2015. Jimmy Bartlett, O.D., kicks off CE with practice pearls on pharmacology at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, and stay for additional CE options on Sunday.

  2. All-new events. Don't miss the 'OD Talk' session—inspired by the popular TED Talks—also on Wednesday, to find out what's in store for the profession's future.

  3. Opening General Session. Sponsored by Essilor, Optometry's Meeting 2015 kicks off on Wednesday evening with the annual AOA awards ceremony, as well as the keynote presentation. Watch for the keynote speaker announcement soon.

  4. Get engaged in the Exhibit Hall. The Exhibit Hall is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Take part in the "Seattle Experience" program from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, and receive a lunch coupon good in the Exhibit Hall on Saturday, sponsored by Signet Armorlite.

Remember to arrive in time for the Opening General Session on Wednesday, June 24, and start planning your trip to Seattle now. Registration and housing will open February 2015.

Call for posters opens, new presentation honor
While Optometry's Meeting is on the mind, the AOA reminds members to start submitting their abstracts now for consideration in this year's Clinical and Scientific Poster Session.

A perennially popular event for sharing unique casework and research among colleagues, this year's poster session brings an all-new opportunity to magnify exposure from the national forum to an even larger audience of members.

Submit a poster, and the top 5 selections—in addition to being displayed during the regular poster session and earning a $100 travel stipend—will receive new honors, including:

  • The opportunity for a 15- to 20-minute presentation during a rapid-fire interactive education session at Optometry's Meeting from 8 to 10 a.m., Saturday, June 27.

  • An additional $100 travel stipend (excluding information posters) for a total of $200 as an honorarium for the presentation; and,

  • Inclusion of the scientific abstract in an AOA digital supplement to be promoted on aoa.org and in AOA Focus.

Poster abstracts must be submitted electronically and must be received by Feb. 6. For more details and an electronic submission form, click here.

Be sure to mark the calendar for the poster preview session on Friday, June 26, and the interactive session offering CE credit from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 27.
