Research on display at Optometry’s Meeting®
Optometry's Meeting® is continuing a special portion of its education offerings with the annual poster session. This year, 84 posters will be exhibited, creating a national forum for clinicians, students and faculty to communicate interesting cases and unique research to their colleagues. All abstracts are based on unique clinical cases and are previously unpublished work.
The poster session will have a preview session on Friday, June 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will be an interactive session offering continuing education credit on Saturday, June 28, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., where the authors will be present.
In 2013, posters touched on everything from optometry's role in the education system to problems caused by UV lamps to side effects of bariatric surgery to several explorations of glaucoma and neuropathy.
According to Dominick M. Maino, O.D., who is a professor of pediatrics/binocular vision at the Illinois Eye Institute/Illinois College of Optometry, as well as in private practice and chair of the AOA Posters Committee, the 2014 session promises to be just as diverse. Presentations of conditions related to aging are again well represented, as are questions related to optimal contact lens use, in addition to trauma and diseases of varying levels of severity including relationships to influenza and breast cancer.
The 2014 Optometry's Meeting Poster abstracts are available at aoa.org/documents/optometrists/2014PosterSessionFinal.pdf.
To submit a poster for the 2015 Optometry's Meeting, send an email to OM2014@aoa.org to request the criteria.
