At its June 23-26, 2004 Annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education took the following actions:

NOTE: The date behind the names of the programs below is the next currently scheduled full evaluation visit.

  1. Preaccreditation Actions

    • Granted the pre-accreditation status of "Candidacy Pending" to VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System – Las Vegas, Residency in Ocular Disease, which is affiliated with Southern California College of Optometry


  2. Initial Accreditation
    Classification of "Accredited" granted following a full evaluation visit:

    • Davis Duehr Dean Eye Clinic, Residency in Refractive Surgery Co-Management & Anterior Segment Disease, affiliated with Illinois College of Optometry (2011);
    • Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston, Residency in Ocular Disease, affiliated with New England College of Optometry (2011)


    Classification of "Accredited with Conditions*" granted following a full evaluation visit

    • San Juan VAMC, Residency in Geriatrics & Visual Impairment Rehabilitation, affiliated with Inter American University of Puerto Rico, School of Optometry (2005)
    * Subject to Council appeals procedures


  3. Continuing Accreditation

    Classification of "Accredited" continued following a full evaluation visit:


    • Dorn VAMC, Residency in Primary Care Optometry, affiliated with Southern College of Optometry (2011);
    • Muskogee VAMC, Residency in Primary Eye Care, affiliated with Northeastern State University College of Optometry (2011);

    • Northeastern State University College of Optometry, Residency in Family Practice Optometry (2011);
    • Southern College of Optometry, Professional Optometric Degree Program (2012);

  4. Withdrawal of accreditation by ACOE

  5. Voluntary withdrawal of accreditation

    • Lexington VAMC Residency in Primary Eye Care, affiliated with Indiana University School of Optometry (The Council was notified of the program's voluntary withdrawal from accreditation at the end of the academic year – effective July 1, 2004. Reason: The program supervisor left the program, and the affiliate discontinued its affiliation.)
