At its June 21-24, 2006 Annual meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education took the following actions:

The date behind the names of the programs below is the next currently scheduled full evaluation visit.

  1. Preaccreditation Actions
    The following programs were granted candidacy pending status following a unanimous mail ballot:
    • John D Dingell Detroit VAMC, Residency in Ocular Disease/Primary Eye Care, which is affiliated with Ferris State University Michigan College of Optometry (2007);
    • Philadelphia VA Medical Center, Optometric Residency Program, which is affiliated with Pennsylvania College of Optometry (2007);
    • San Diego VAMC, Residency in Primary Care Optometry, which is affiliated with Southern California College of Optometry (2007)
    • VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System, Reno, Residency in Hospital-Based Optometry, which is affiliated with University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry (2007);


  2. Initial Accreditation
    • Alaska Eye Care Centers, Residency in Contact Lens and Primary Care, which is affiliated with Pacific University College of Optometry (2013);
    • Indiana University School of Optometry, Residency in Ocular Disease (2013);
    • US Army Medical Center Department and School, 300 P-3 Eye Specialty Course (2013);


  3. Continuing Accreditation
    Classification of “Accredited” continued following a full evaluation visit:
    • Cincinnati Eye Institute, Residency in Ocular Disease, which is affiliated with The Ohio State University College of Optometry (2013);
    • James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Residency in Primary Eye Care, which is affiliated with Southern College of Optometry (2013);
    • Southern California College of Optometry, Professional Optometric Degree Program (2014);
    • University of Houston College of Optometry, Professional Optometric Degree Program (2014);
    • University of Houston College of Optometry, Residency in Cornea and Contact Lens (2013);

  4. Reinstatement of Accreditation
    Accreditation reinstated and classification of “Accredited” granted following reconsideration of previous decision to withdraw accreditation:
    • VA Caribbean Health Care System (formerly known as San Juan Veterans Affairs Medical Center), Residency in Geriatrics and Visual Impairment Rehabilitation, which is affiliated with Inter American University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry (2012);


  5. Withdrawal of accreditation by ACOE
    • None
