Quick Reference Guides

Each of the Quick Reference Guides (QRG) is based on one of the AOA Optometric Clinical Practice Guidelines. Their purpose is to provide clinicians with a concise summary of the key patient management information provided in the Guidelines.

The Quick Reference Guides do not replace the information contained in the Guidelines and should not be relied on alone for patient care and management information. They can, however, serve as a useful guide or summary of recommendations for the appropriate care of patients. The inclusion of color photographs in several of the Guides also enhances their usefulness in clinical decision making.

The Quick Reference Guides may be used:

  • To review the clinical classification, evaluation, and management of patients with the conditions covered by the Guidelines;

  • As a resource for communicating with other health care providers to enhance patient consultation and comanagement services;

  • To inform governmental agencies, insurance companies and other third party entities about the scope and nature of optometric services.
