Government Entities Important to Optometry

Federal Government Relations represents optometry and the AOA before the U.S. Congress and federal agencies such as the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Social Security Administration (SSA), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). In addition to its federal role, the center is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with related professions and associations.

Within the policies of the House of Delegates and the Board of Trustees, develops AOA positions and action programs on federal legislation and agency regulation as related to the profession of optometry.

Assists other AOA entities in the accomplishment of their goals when they require assistance which can best be obtained through contacts with Congress and federal agencies.
