Join AOA - Reside and Practice in a Foreign Country

As an optometrist who resides and practices in a foreign country, you are eligible for direct membership in the American Optometric Association (AOA) as an associate member. Effective January 1, 2009, annual dues for an associate membership are $368.00. Annual dues will be prorated for the year joined based on the effective date of membership. The effective date of membership is the date the application is signed by the applicant. Dues are payable directly to the AOA by MasterCard, VISA, American Express or by check drawn on a U.S. bank in U.S. dollars. The AOA membership year is the calendar year January 1 through December 31. Click here to download a copy of the membership application.

Instructions for Application for Associate Membership - International:

This application is used to initiate a new associate membership or to reinstate an associate membership that has lapsed with the American Optometric Association for optometrists living in a foreign country other than Canada or a US Territory. All information on the application must be completed in full. Your acceptance of the terms of membership must be noted by your signature on the bottom of page 2 of the application. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Payment of your first year’s dues in the amount determined by your effective date of membership on page 2 of the application must be included with your application. Dues may be paid by MasterCard, Visa or American Express or by a check drawn on a U.S. bank in U.S. dollars.

Submit your completed application and dues payment to AOA Member Records, 243 N. Lindbergh Blvd., Floor 1, St. Louis, MO 63141-7881 for approval and processing. Upon approval, you will receive by mail your AOA membership card and your AOA membership certificate suitable for framing. Your AOA ID number will be included on your membership card. Please be aware of your AOA ID number. This number is required for access to the AOA website and to receive the reduced member registration fee at Optometry’s Meeting™.

Current associate members should not submit an application for renewal of their membership. The renewal of existing memberships is done annually by the payment of the annual dues obligation. Renewal invoices are issued by AOA in January of each year. Payment of your dues invoice renews your membership for the upcoming year.

Questions regarding your application or the membership process can be directed to MemberRecords@aoa.org.
