History of The Archives & Museum

The Archives & Museum of Optometry (AMO) was established in 2009 after the closing of the International Library, Archives & Museum of Optometry (ILAMO).   After 100 years of operating as a circulating and reference library, ILAMO staff  deaccessioned a substantial portion of the Library's holdings and began work on developing the Archives and Museum collections.  In 2012, the last member of the ILAMO staff, Linda Draper, retired after 40 years of service.

The Archives & Museum of Optometry's mission going forward is to bring this hidden gem into the digital age! We are working diligiently on increasing access to our holdings through the creation of finding aids, reworking our acquisitions policy and developing our online resources.  To this end, we have digitized and made available a history of the ILAMO prepared by the staff and published by the AOA as part of their centennial celebration in 2008:

International Library Archives and Museum of Optometry Centennial: ILAMO 100 Years
