This resource is intended to educate the public on the link between visual quality of life and mental health. Doctors of optometry can play a critical role in a patient’s overall wellness by recognizing mental illness; understanding how mental illness and medications can impact ocular conditions, and doctors of optometry are instrumental in identifying key referrals for patients. As primary care providers, doctors of optometry are sometimes one of the only health care professionals that individuals engage with on an annual basis.
Treatment Options for Patients with Blepharitis

This resource is intended to educate the public on Blepharitis, its symptoms and treatment options. In July 2023, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Lotilaner ophthalmic solution 0.25% (XDEMVY™) for the treatment of Demodex blepharitis. Developed by Tarsus Pharmaceuticals, Lotilaner 0.25% obtained FDA approval for treatment of Demodex blepharitis and is a gamma- aminobutyric acid-gated chloride (GABA-Cl) channel inhibitor selective for mites.

Doctors of optometry are embracing managing myopia, not just talking about it

According to an American Optometric Association (AOA) Research & Information Committee (RIC) survey, 69% of doctors of optometry report providing myopia management services in their practices and three out of four responding doctors consider myopia to be a disease in need of treatment. Nearly all responding doctors who provide myopia management services (93%) are practicing in metropolitan areas and 71% of these doctors report working in an independent practice not affiliated with private equity or corporate optometry.
