PO-Utilizing Comprehensive Refractive Surgery to Maximize Vision
Description:
Refractive surgery is now a broad category of surgical treatments that correct refractive error by addition (lens procedures) or subtraction (corneal laser procedures). Regardless of the chosen procedure, refractive surgery as a category historically has a very high patient satisfaction rate, that should only get better. This lecture aims to provide an in-depth update on laser refractive surgery to bolster confidence in referring clinicians for their patients. Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK), Laser-assisted In Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK), and Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) will all be covered, along with pros and cons of each. This lecture will also review scenarios where a lens-based procedure with implantable collamer lenses (ICL's) or a refractive lens exchange (RLE) is the best option. Whether addition or subtraction is the surgical sub-type, optometrists should be ready and prepared to comanage refractive surgery patients.
