Christopher Wolfe, O.D.

Young Optometrist of the Year

Christopher Wolfe, O.D. Even before he graduated from the Northeastern State University College of Optometry, Christopher Wolfe, O.D., was making a difference. As a student, he served as president of the American Optometric Student Association, representing more than 6,000 members. Dr. Wolfe continues to lead by example, making many contributions that led to his selection as the 2016 Young Optometrist of the Year.

Dr. Wolfe has a distinguished record of service since joining Exclusively Eyecare, the practice founded by his father, Steven Wolfe, O.D.

As co-chair of the Nebraska Optometric Association (NOA) Legislative Committee, he drafted, lobbied and passed legislation to expand the optometrist's scope of services. The 2014 law removed remaining restrictions on oral prescriptions and for obtaining authorization for injections by the state's optometrists. Legislation is now pending to protect consumers from kiosks and other online technologies.

Over the past two years, Dr. Wolfe restructured the NOA's grassroots political network and remains a key financial contributor to its PAC and as a liaison with state legislators.

He spearheaded an NOA task force on the feasibility of a new optometric IPA (Independent Provider Association). This came to fruition in January 2016, and he serves as chairman of the IPA called EyeAssure LLC.

His passion for education to advance the profession and improve patient treatment includes a leadership role in KMK Educational Services, which has given optometrists new and innovative resources. He lectures extensively on the topics of cornea and contact lenses, neuro-ophthalmic conditions, binocular vision disorders, glaucoma and optics. Last year he was invited to lecture at 13 of the nation's optometry schools.

He has participated in Optometry Giving Sight to benefit underprivileged children in other countries. Dr. Wolfe also has volunteered as a provider for the InfantSee® program, as well as free assessments to 3-year-olds through the See to Learn Program.

His expertise in the legislative arena made him a natural to serve as a member of the AOA State Government Relations Committee. Dr. Wolfe previously was a member of the AOA Joint Board Certification Project Team.
