Evelyn Denise Lott, CPOT

Paraoptometric of the Year

Evelyn Denise Lott, CPOT Going above and beyond her duties, whether at her clinic or in her community, exemplifies the service that earned Evelyn Denise Lott, CPOT, honors as the 2016 Paraoptometric of the Year.

A Certified Paraoptometric Technician and office manager for Southern Eye Care of Clinton, Mississippi, since 2009, Lott holds a lifelong passion for optometry. She worked at a local optometric lab while attending high school in Greenville, Mississippi. After attending community college, she became an emergency medical technician. But optometry remained close to her heart, so she returned to Mississippi and earned her CPOA certification and recently received her CPOT certification.

Her service to the visual welfare of the public extends far and wide. She volunteered to perform optical dispensing for soldiers deploying to Iraq at Camp McCain Training Center in Grenada, Mississippi. She also assisted in educating preschool children and parents in Clinton on the importance of annual eye health examinations.

Each year, Lott attends Mississippi College's Back to the Brick night, promoting the importance of eye health to the new and returning students at the college.

A member of the Mississippi Paraoptometric Association (MOA) since 2012, she spends considerable time in supporting both the MOA and the AOA. This includes service on the AOA Career Ladder Project Team to help define guidelines for those pursuing careers in optometry. She helped administer the Para Jump Start Training Program to promote continuing education for paraoptometrics in Mississippi. Lott also serves on the AOA Paraoptometric Resource Center Education Review Subcommittee.

Her service earned her the 2015 American Optometric Association's Community Service Award. She donated the money that she received as part of the award to the Mississippi Optometric Association's Vision Foundation as her charity of choice. She also was honored as the Mississippi Optometric Association's 2015 Paraoptometric of the Year.

A proud veteran, Lott's character, work ethic and contributions ensure that paraoptometrics continue on a path to success.
