Seeing the World Differently: Natasha Caudill’s Story

January 13, 2026
For Chicago-based creator and disability advocate Natasha, vision isn’t defined by color — it’s defined by perspective. Born with achromatopsia, a rare form of blindness that allows her to see only in shades of gray, Natasha has built a powerful platform dedicated to education, inclusion, and empowerment. Now, in partnership with the American Optometric Association, she’s helping others understand the importance of eye health and comprehensive vision care.

For Natasha, the world has always existed in black and white — literally. Born with achromatopsia, a rare, inherited vision condition that causes total color blindness and light sensitivity, she experiences life through a grayscale lens. But rather than letting that limit her, Natasha transformed her unique way of seeing the world into her creative superpower.

From beauty and fashion to science, current events, and art, Natasha uses her black-and-white videos to share how she perceives color, light, and texture. Her content doesn’t just educate, it inspires millions to think differently about vision, accessibility, and inclusion.

Growing up, Natasha visited her optometrist every year, learning early on how essential it was to care for her eyes and overall visual health. While achromatopsia can’t be cured, early diagnosis and regular eye care can help individuals manage symptoms, access the right visual aids, and protect their long-term eye health.

“This is literally full body health,” Natasha says. “Seeing an optometrist every year ensured I had the accessibility, tools, and aids I needed. I was born with my rare form of blindness but no matter what most people’s vision is going to change over time.”

Annual comprehensive eye exams can detect more than refractive issues. They can also reveal early signs of more than 270+ eye diseases and even systemic health conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol.

Now, through her partnership with the American Optometric Association, she’s amplifying that message to audiences around the world and reminding everyone that healthy vision begins with an in-person comprehensive eye exam.
