Horn announces trustee re-election bid

Barbara L. Horn, O.D., has filed for re-election to the American Optometric Association Board of Trustees.

Elected to the board in June 2011, Dr. Horn serves as a member of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee. She serves as the board liaison to the AOA Communications and Marketing Group, and the AOA-Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) Joint Project Team. She also serves as liaison to affiliate associations in Washington, D.C., Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia, in addition to the American Optometric Student Association and the Ohio State University College of Optometry.

Dr. Horn, of Washington, Mich., has served as chair of the Clinical and Practice Advancement Executive Committee, Medical Eye Care Committee, and Membership Group. She has spent time on numerous committees and projects, including the Program Planning Committee, Public Health Disease Prevention Committee and the Needs/Technology Project Team. Dr. Horn is also a diplomate with the American Board of Optometry.

She is a past president of the Michigan Optometric Association (MOA), and a member of the MOA Legislative Committee where she served as an initial state leader for the InfantSEE® program. She is also a past chair of the MOA Grassroots Optometry.

Dr. Horn has been recognized as the MOA's 2005 Young Optometrist of the Year, AOA's 2006 Young Optometrist of the Year, and MOA's 2011 Optometrist of the Year. She was also awarded the 2007 Pacesetter Award at Ferris State University, and MOA's 1997 Student of the Year award.

She is a past president of the Michigan Optometric Student Association, past president of the Michigan Student Sports Vision Section and past secretary of the Optometry Student Government.

An honor graduate of The Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University, Dr. Horn served as a faculty member in the Externship Clinical area. She has served as trustee of the Metropolitan Detroit Optometric Society, member of the Colorado Optometric Association and chair of VISION USA, Colorado.

Dr. Horn is a past president of Business Networking International, Rainmakers Chapter; a past charter president of the North Macomb Optimist Club; and serves as a member of the Washington Township Planning Commission. She has also served with the Volunteers in Optometric Service to Humanity and the Special Olympics World Winter Games.

She is in private practice with ExpertEyes Family Eye Center & Optical, with two locations in Washington and Chesterfield, Mich.
