Have you complied with new federal patient nondiscrimination requirements? AOA can help.

The vast majority of optometrists need to comply with new regulations required by the patient nondiscrimination provision of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) - section 1557, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in health care settings.
The new regulations require optometrist who accept Federal financial assistance* to do the following:  

1) Post Notice of nondiscrimination

  • Post hard copies of the notice in public spaces of the office or facility; and
  • Post the notice on the entity's Web site, if it has one

2) Post Taglines that alert individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP) to the availability of language assistance services in the top 15 languages of the practice location's state.

3) Create a Grievance Procedure and Coordinator if your practice employs 15 or more people

4) Ensure that all your practices' policies and procedures comply with 1557 regulations:
