Curtis Ono, O.D. has announced his candidacy for the American Optometric Association Board of Trustees for election at the 123rd Annual AOA Congress & 50th Annual AOSA Conference: Optometry's Meeting® 2020, June 24-28, 2020, in National Harbor, Md./Washington, D.C.

Dr. Ono has extensive experience as an AOA volunteer serving as the chair of the Membership Development Committee and chair of the Affiliate Relations and Membership Executive committee. Other AOA committees and appointments Dr. Ono has served include the Resolutions, Vision USA and Practice Modalities committees.

Dr. Ono was honored with the AOA President's Award in 2019. He has also received the Great Western Council of Optometry (GWCO) President Leadership Award in 2017. The Optometric Physicians of Washington (OPW) recognized Dr. Ono with the Jack Hale (Lifetime Achievement) Award in 2017, Optometric Physician of the Year in 2016 and the Distinguished Service Award in 2016 and 2005. The Minnesota Optometric Association (MOA) awarded Dr. Ono the President's Award in 2004.

Dr. Ono is a past president of the Optometric Physicians of Washington and has served in numerous positions, including all executive officer positions and trustee. He has served as chair of the Membership, Annual Convention Planning, VISION USA, Legislative Grassroots and Children's Vision committees.  He has been a member of the Clinical Care—Geriatrics, Hospital Privileges, Strategic Planning, Budget, Leadership Development, Education and Awards committees. He serves as the legislative keyperson for both state and federal legislators.

Before moving to Washington State, Dr. Ono was a member of the Minnesota Optometric Association and served as the Metro-area Legislative Grassroots Coordinator and Chair/Co-Founder of the Minnesota Vision Project part of the national VISION USA project.

Dr. Ono is the past president of the Greater Western Council of Optometry, an affiliation of 13-Western affiliates of the AOA. He has served in all executive officer positions and served as chair of the Industry Relations, Congress Planning, Student, Leadership Development, Nominating and Medical Grants committees. He served as a member of the Education, Executive Director Search, and Finance committees.

Dr. Ono is a co-owner of Puget Sound Eye Care with a pediatric ophthalmologist in Seattle and Bellevue, Washington. He lives with his spouse, Wendy Nakatsukasa-Ono. His son, Alex, is pursuing pre-optometry curriculum. Dr. Ono is seeking a position to move our profession and association forward through strategic alliances and partnerships and working side-by-side with our committed and talented volunteers and staff.
