Recent ACOE Accreditation Actions

 At its June 15-18, 2011 Annual meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education took the following actions:

 NOTE: The date behind the names of the programs below is the next currently scheduled full evaluation visit.

 1. Preaccreditation Actions

The following programs were granted candidacy pending status following review of their self-study:

  • Lebanon VA Medical Center Residency in Ocular Disease and Low Vision Rehabilitation, which is affiliated with Pacific University, College of Optometry (2012);
  • Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks, Mt. Vernon Residency in Primary Eye Care, which is affiliated with Northeastern State University, Oklahoma College of Optometry (2012);

Classification of "Preliminary Approval" continued following a full evaluation visit:

2. Initial Accreditation

  • Bond Wroten Eye Clinic Residency in Family Practice, which is affiliated with Southern College of Optometry (2018);
  • Child and Family Optometry Residency in Pediatric Optometry/Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation, which is affiliated with Southern College of Optometry (2018);
  • Eyecare Professionals P.C. Residency in Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation, which is affiliated with Southern College of Optometry (2018);
  • Family Eyecare Associates, P.C. Residency in Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation, which is affiliated with Southern College of Optometry (2018);
  • Miami VAMC Residency in Primary Eye Care with Emphasis in Ocular Disease, which is affiliated with Nova Southeastern University, College of Optometry (2018);
  • Ochsner Medical Center Residency in Hospital-Based Primary Eye Care, which is affiliated with Southern College of Optometry (2018);
  • Providence VAMC Residency in Primary Care/Ocular Disease, which is affiliated with New England College of Optometry (2018);
  • Southern College of Optometry Residency in Cornea/Contact Lens and Refractive Surgery (2018);
  • Southern College of Optometry Residency in Vision Therapy and Low Vision Rehabilitation (2018);

3. Continuing Accreditation
Classification of "Accredited" continued following a full evaluation visit:

  • Dorn VAMC Residency in Primary Eye Care, which is affiliated with Southern College of Optometry (2018);
  • Jack C. Montgomery VAMC Residency in Primary Eye Care, which is affiliated with Northeastern State University, Oklahoma College of Optometry (2018);
  • Southern College of Optometry Residency in Pediatric and Visual Rehabilitation Optometry (2018);
  • State University of New York, State College of Optometry Professional Optometric Degree Program (2019);
  • University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry Residency in Family Practice Optometry (2018);
  • White River Junction VAMC Residency in Primary Eye Care/Ocular Disease, which is affiliated with New England College of Optometry (2018);

 Classification of "Accredited With Conditions"* granted following a full evaluation visit:

  • Inter American University of Puerto Rico, School of Optometry Residency in Primary Eye Care (2012);

* A decision to grant the category of accredited with conditions is not final until the ACOE appeals process has been exhausted, or until 30 days from notification of the action to grant accredited with conditions.

Classification of "Accredited with Conditions" raised to "Accredited" following a full evaluation visit:

4. Reconsideration of Accreditation Denial

5. Withdrawal of accreditation by ACOE

 6. Voluntary withdrawal of accreditation

  • Vision Care Specialist Program (optometric technician) at Spokane Community College, effective April 29, 2011.
