Recent ACOE Accreditation Actions

At its June 24-27, 2015 Annual meeting in Seattle, Washington the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education took the following actions: (Note:  Date in parenthesis is the date of the next currently scheduled evaluation visit to the programs. Depending on the outcomes of annual reports, progress reports, interim visits, substantive program changes and other significant events affecting a program, the Council may decide to schedule a full on-site evaluation visit before the original eight  year accreditation period is complete.) 

Basis for ACOE Decisions

1. Preaccreditation Actions

Classification of "Preliminary Approval" continued following a full evaluation visit:

A. MCPHS University (formerly known as Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences) School of Optometry Professional Optometric Degree Program (2016).

2 . Initial Accreditation granted to the following programs following a full evaluation visit:

A.  Associated Eye Care Residency in Ocular Disease, which is affiliated with Illinois College of Optometry (2023);

B.  Audie Murphie  Memorial VA Hospital Residency in Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Ocular Disease, which is affiliated with University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry(2023); 

C.  Havener Eye Institute Residency in Contact Lens and Ocular Disease, which is affiliated with The Ohio State University, College of Optometry (2023);   

D.  Micheal E. DeBakey VA Medical Center Residency in Primary Eye Care, which is affiliated with University of Houston, College of Optometry (2023);

E.  Neuro-Vision Associates of North Texas Residency in Vision Rehabilitation/Vision Therapy/Pediatric Vision Care, which is affiliated with Southern College of Optometry (2023);

F.  Northeastern State University, Oklahoma College of Optometry Residency in Vision Rehabilitation (2023);

G.  Optometry Center for Vision Therapy Residency in Vision Therapy and Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation, which is affiliated with the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry (2023);

H. Toyos Clinic Residency in Refractive and Ocular Surgery, which is affiliated with Southern College of Optometry (2023);

I.  Triad Eye Medical Clinic Residency in Ocular Disease and Refractive and Ocular Surgery, which is affiliated with Northeastern State University, Oklahoma College of Optometry (2023);

J.  Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System, Residency in Primary Eye Care/Brain Injury Vision Rehabilitation, which is affiliated with University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry (2023). 

3.  Continuing Accreditation

 Classification of "Accredited" continued following a full evaluation visit:

A. Bay Pines VA Medical Center Residency in Primary Eye Care, which is affiliated with Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry (2023);  

B. Childrens Mercy Hospitals and Clinics Residency in Pediatric Optometry, which is affiliated with University of Missouri-St. Louis, College of Optometry (2023);

C.  Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center Residency in Ocular Disease, which is affiliated with The Ohio State University, College of Optometry (2023);

D.  Illinois College of Optometry Residency in Cornea and Contact Lens Management (2023);

E.  Illinois College of Optometry Residency in Low Vision Rehabilitation and Ocular Disease (2023);

F.  Orlando VA Medical Center Residency in Primary Eye Care, which is affiliated with Nova Southeastern University, College of Optometry (2023);

G. Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center Residency in Primary Care Optometry, which is affiliated with Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University (2023);

H. University of California, Berkeley, School of Optometry Optometry Residency Program (2023).

Classification of "Accredited with Conditions" granted following a full evaluation visit:

Classification of "Accredited with Conditions" raised to "Accredited" following submission of satisfactory progress report:

Note: In additon to the above accreditation actions, the ACOE also reviewed the following program(s) applying for initial application as a professional optometric degree program.  (Stage One Applicant and Stage Two Applicant are not official pre-accreditation classifications, but rather steps toward pre-accreditation.)
