Bhavani Iyer, O.D. - Bio

Bhavani Iyer, O.D., FAAO, graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry, Ferris State University in 1997. She moved to the United States from India to pursue her Doctor of Optometry degree after completing a Baccalaureate in optometry in Chennai. She gained extensive experience in the field of vision rehabilitation through her work at the Henry Ford Center for Visual Rehabilitation in Detroit, MI. 

After her move to Houston in 2007, she helped establish and became the director of the Dan Arnold Center for Vision Rehabilitation, a multi-specialty comprehensive vision rehabilitation clinic dedicated to serving the needs of all low vision patient. She serves as an assistant professor at the University of Texas, McGovern Medical School in Houston. She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, with the most notable ones being the SightFirst Grant through the Lions Club International Foundation and the Dan Arnold Endowment for low vision. She also helped establish a low vision service at the Harris Health LBJ Hospital in Houston. She is currently the chair elect of the American Optometric Association's Vision Rehabilitation Committee and will take office in June 2017.
