  • An estimated 45 million Americans wear contact lenses
  • 14.5% of adolescents 17 or younger wear contacts
  • 24.4% of young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 wear contacts
  • 15.5% of adults age 25 and older wear contacts
  • Most contact lens wearers are nearsighted
  • Among lens wearers, over 90% of adults wear soft lenses

    Risky Business
    Among lens wearers:

  • 45% of adults replace lenses at intervals longer than prescribed
  • 29.8% of adolescents, 33.3% of young adults, and 32.9% of adults admitted to
    napping or sleeping in contacts
  • 6 in 7 admitted to at least one practice that puts them at serious
    risk for infection
